My story

About me

Hello, my name is Elisabetta Nicotra, and I have always been passionate about different languages and cultures. I enjoy travelling and exploring the world, but I always seek to capture the essence of the places I visit. I adore the sea, nature, and animals, and I like board games, group dances, and Latin American music. I enjoy cooking and cultivating my vegetable garden.

I work as a freelance translator and love my job because it is flexible and dynamic, so I never get bored!

I also offer a mentoring programme to junior translators and am an ordinary member of ANITI (Italian National Association of Translators and Interpreters).

My path

After high school, I moved to northern Italy and earned a degree in Translation from the University of Trieste (SSLMIT). Between my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, I completed internships and many volunteer work experiences that made me recognise that working as a translator was my ideal job.

I’ve been working as a translator since 2020, translating marketing texts from German, English, and Spanish into Italian. However, my education is continually expanding, as I stay updated and continue to take specific courses in translation, marketing, web design, SEO, social media, and copywriting.

Experience & Training

After an internship at the translation agency Linklab and one at the Chamber of Commerce in Leipzig (Germany), I discovered that marketing was my true passion, so I chose to pursue a master’s degree and focus on this field.

Today, I translate websites, e-commerce, Amazon products, and classic marketing materials like brochures, catalogues, and newsletters. I provide a variety of language services and work with international agencies and companies to assist my clients succeed in the Italian market.

NICOTRAnslations

The name of my freelance translation company, ‘NICOTRAnslations’, is a mix of my surname, ‘Nicotra‘, and the word ‘Translations‘. Translations are the core of my job, but they are not the only service I offer.

NICOTRAnslations can provide high-quality language services to help you overcome language barriers and establish yourself in the Italian market. The red syllable ‘tra‘ (between in English) emphasises that only by connecting one culture to another, you can successfully convey a message and fully understand your counterpart.

Lost in Translation

‘Lost in Translation‘ is my mentoring programme for junior translators. It is an exclusive, unique, and personalised course designed to assist students taking their initial steps into the field of translation in finding their path and starting a freelancing career.

This course was designed to help those who are new to the translation industry and don’t know where to start. Working as a freelancer requires a wide range of skills that universities do not teach, and I am always eager to assist new colleagues with finding their place in the industry.
